The Governor of Anambra State Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has announced a N10 million bounty for information leading to the capture of the gunmen responsible for the recent deadly attack in the Umuike, Ubahuekwem community, in Ihiala Local Overnment Area.
The attack which left seven people dead unfolded during burial preparations for Bridget Akanma Onuchukwu on January 2 as the Voice of Nigeria gathered that the attackers struck,targeting a gathering members making arrangements for the ceremony.
The gunfire claimed the lives of five police officers and two civilians, traumatizing the community.
Witnesses reported that the assailants also targeted security personnel stationed near the local government headquarters as they fled the scene.
During a condolence visit to the grieving family, Governor Soludo expressed his profound sorrow over the loss and reassured the community that those behind this violent act would face justice.
In a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, the governor affirmed, “We will not rest until the perpetrators of this heinous crime are apprehended. All of them will pay for it.”
He urged anyone with information about the attackers to come forward, highlighting that discussions on enhancing security in Ihiala were ongoing and forthcoming.
