Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has strongly condemned an attack at a mosque located within the Gomboru Market area of Maiduguri metropolis, which occurred on Wednesday evening.

The incident happened while worshippers were observing the Maghrib prayer, resulting in the loss of lives and leaving several others injured.

Governor Zulum, who expressed his deep sorrow from the frontline in northern Borno through his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, described the attack as a cruel and inhumane act that violates the sanctity of a place of worship.

“I am deeply saddened by the attack at the Gomboru mosque during Maghrib prayers. The loss of innocent lives and injuries sustained by worshippers is utterly condemnable, barbaric, and unacceptable,” the Governor said.

He stressed that attacking a place of worship represents a grave desecration, especially at a time when Muslim faithful were engaged in prayers.

The Governor extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and prayed for the repose of their souls, while also wishing those injured a speedy recovery.

Governor Zulum further called on residents to remain vigilant, particularly in places of worship and public spaces, as the festive period approaches.

He assured the public that security agencies have been directed to intensify measures to prevent any further breaches and to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.
