The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has extended heartfelt appreciation to members of the union and stakeholders for their overwhelming support and active participation during the 2025 Press Week.
In a message of gratitude released in Abuja, Comrade Ike described the week-long event as a remarkable celebration of journalistic excellence, professionalism, and unity, noting that the massive turnout and contributions from members reflected the true spirit of the union.
“ I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all NUJ FCT members who turned out en masse for the 2025 Press Week. Your enthusiasm, dedication, and unity have been the driving force behind the success of this event,” she stated.
The NUJ FCT Chairperson commended members of the Executive Council for their unwavering support and commitment to the success of the Press Week, describing their collective efforts as pivotal to the event’s excellence.
She also lauded the Press Week Planning Committee, led by Rt. Evelyn Onyilo, for their exceptional coordination and dedication, which ensured the seamless execution of the event’s activities. According to her, the committee’s professionalism and passion were evident in the quality of each segment.
Acknowledging the role of past leaders, Comrade Ike thanked former chairmen of the NUJ FCT Council for the foundational legacy they laid, which continues to inspire current leadership and members alike.
She further applauded chapel chairmen and secretaries across the FCT for mobilising members effectively, attributing the vibrant participation to their grassroots leadership and organisational strength.
In the same vein, she expressed deep gratitude to NUJ veterans for their steadfast mentorship and commitment over the years, which she described as the backbone of the union’s strength and continuity.
The NUJ FCT Chairman also appreciated media organisations and online platforms that provided wide coverage of the Press Week, saying their support amplified the union’s activities and underscored the importance of press freedom and responsible journalism.
Comrade Grace Ike concluded by urging members to sustain the momentum by promoting professionalism, unity, and the welfare of all journalists.
“Together, your collective contributions underscore the resilience, unity, and passion of our union. Let us build on this momentum as we continue to uphold the principles of press freedom, professionalism, and the welfare of all journalists,” she added.
The Press Week, which brought together journalists, media executives, government officials, and stakeholders, featured a variety of events including workshops, school outreach, sports, and an award night, reflecting the diverse and evolving landscape of journalism in Nigeria.
