Greener City: Lagos State Government Tasks Residents on Tree Planting
The Lagos State Government has called on residents and stakeholders to join the tree-planting initiative to make the city greener.
Speaking at the annual tree planting commemoration hosted by the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency, the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Environmental Services, Omobolaji Gaji, said that trees play an important role in improving air quality, reducing flooding, and providing shade.
He urged residents to plant trees in their backyards, create rooftop gardens, or participate in community gardening projects. He also called on businesses, educational institutions, and community organizations to partner with the government to green the city.
Gaji who was represented by Mrs Tolulope Adeyo, the Director, Conservation and Ecology, said that the government is committed to investing in research and development to identify the most effective and sustainable green initiatives.
“The government will engage and educate citizens about the importance of trees and how they can participate in the greening process.”
