The Journalists Network for Peace under the Community Initiatives to Promote Peace (CIPP) Programme has commended Nigerians for the peaceful conduct of gubernatorial and states house of assembly elections.
In a statement made available to the media on Monday, the Team leader of the network, Ibrahima Yakubu, commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for timely distribution of election materials.
The group also applauded the States and Federal government for deploying adequate security across the country during the election.
He expressed satisfaction over the just concluded governorship and state houses of assembly elections describing it as the best in the history of Nigeria.
While calling on candidates that lost in the race to take it in good faith for peace and stability in the country, the network also warned against the spread of fake news on the social media saying “citizens should be cautious of news on Facebook, twitters, Instagram, WhatsApp amongst other,” he said.
He commended the Nigerian union of journalists for opening -up situation rooms during and after the elections and appealed to citizens to always access news from credible media organizations.
