The Northern Nigeria Group (NNMG) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for promoting inclusivity and competence in leadership appointments, urging Nigerians to focus on the credibility, integrity and performance of public officials.

The group made this known in a statement following the appointment of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

NNMG described Professor Amupitan as a distinguished legal scholar whose wealth of experience and commitment to due process would strengthen Nigeria’s electoral system and deepen democratic governance.

The group emphasised that Nigeria’s diversity should be viewed as a source of strength, urging citizens to promote harmony, inclusivity and mutual respect in national discourse.

Convener of the group, Chief Jacob Edi, called for a collective commitment to fairness, competence and national cohesion in leadership appointments across all sectors.

He reaffirmed that Nigeria’s progress depends on unity, professionalism and the recognition of merit in public service.

The NNMG also expressed support for ongoing reforms aimed at building strong, credible and inclusive institutions that serve the interests of all Nigerians.
