The Polling Unit Ambassadors of Nigeria, PUAN and a coalition of Civil Society Organisations have called for calm in the country, days after the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

They urged Nigerians not to take laws into their hands but channel their grievances appropriately.

The Ambassador General of PUAN Mr Suleiman Dabas said that Nigeria must find a professional and globally acceptable standard or practice to address their grievances which are already in the Constitution and the Electoral Act 2022.

Mr Dabas pleaded with all Nigerians home and abroad as well as stakeholders to remain law abiding and avoid post-election violence in the country

The Ambassador General said the PUAN and other Civil Society groups have identified some of the challenges experienced during the Presidential and National Assembly elections which include the inability of Nigeria’s electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to upload election results at some polling Units through the Voter Accreditation System, BVAS as promised before the polls.

Mr Dabas said the failure of the electoral body to keep to its promises due to technical issues was the major problem during the elections.

He however urged INEC to tackle the challenges encountered during the General election before the Governorship and State House of Assembly Elections on March 11.

“Election will come and go but the people will remain so we must not allow the exercise to bring disunity among us,” Mr Dabas stated.
