Guber Election: Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu wins

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has declared Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives congress (APC) as winner of the Lagos State Gubernatorial Election held on March 18 2023.

Mr. Sanwo-Olu who is seeking re-election according to the electoral umpire won 19 of 20 local government with 762,134 votes.

While making the announcement at the Yaba Office of the Commission, the Returning officer of the Commission, Professor Nike Oladiji, said that the total number of registered voters was 7,060,195 while accredited voters was put at 1,180,620.

Oladiji mentioned that the Governor-elect was closely followed by the Labor Party (LP) candidate, Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour who scored 312,329 while Azeez Adediran of the People Democratic Party PDP polled 62,449.

According to her, total valid votes in Lagos was 1,155,678 while the rejected votes was put at 17,953 with total votes at 1,173,631.

After the official announcement by the INEC, the Governor-elect, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said that the victory is a reflection of his administration’s commitment to further develop the State for the future.

Speaking at the Government House Marina, the Governor-elect promised to deliver more dividends of democracy to all residents of the state in fulfilment of his electoral promises.

Sanwo-olu who contested alongside fifteen other candidates thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and the President-elect, Mr Bola Tinubu and all his supporters for ensuring credible election which returned him to the seat of power.

He however extended a hand of fellowship to his co-contestants, calling them to join hands with his Government to further rebuild the State.
