The House of Representatives has inaugurated an Ad-Hoc Committee to Investigate the implementation of the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Policy in Nigeria.
This Follows the resolution on a motion titled “Call to Establish More Compressed Natural Gas Conversion Centres Across Nigeria” and call on the Federal Government to establish CNG centres equitably across the country to give Nigerians a sense of belonging.
The committee chaired by Mr. Ahmadu Usman Jaha has amongst its mandate, assessing the safety, viability and sustainability of the CNG policy in Nigeria.
Mr. Jaha also said that the committee is to ensure that the Executive Arm of Government establish CNG centres equitably across the country to give all Nigerians a sense of belonging;
The chairman said that the committee is to engage relevant agencies of government, International Oil Companies (IOCs) and other organisations to ensure that the nation’s policy on CNG meets global best practices.
He said that the committee is also to determine the adequacy of existing regulatory and legal frameworks governing the implementation of the CNG policy and recommend appropriate legislative measures.
Mr. Jaha said that the committee is made up of very experienced, active and hardworking lawmakers.
“I therefore urge you all to look at the mandate of the Committee as gleaned from the Votes and Proceedings to guide our deliberations in order to enhance the work plan already being drafted by the secretariat, “ Mr. Jaha said.
Recall that the Speaker of the House of Representatives Mr. Abbas Tajudeen announced the constitution and composition of the Ad-Hoc committee made up of eleven members on May 25th, 2025.
