Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, affirmed that the National Assembly is fully committed to advancing lasting solutions that strengthen security across the nation.
He made this known during a condolence visit to Kebbi State following the abduction of students from Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga.
“The news of the students’ kidnapping came as a rude shock. Kebbi has been one of the most stable states in the North.
“We are here to show our solidarity,” Abbas told state officials at the Governor’s Office.
Abbas praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Idris for their security efforts, describing the attack as a “wake‑up call for renewed national action.”
He announced that the House will dedicate its next plenary session to reviewing the security situation in Kebbi, Kwara and Niger states and will engage foreign envoys to develop a new security strategy.
He also pledged financial support to the families of the victims.
Governor Idris, in response, called for an urgent overhaul of the nation’s defence system.
“Both the federal and state governments are working to secure the safe release of the abducted students,” he said.
He lamented the withdrawal of military personnel before the attack, adding that bandits often move in large numbers on motorcycles.
The House of Representatives said it will continue to monitor the situation and push for comprehensive security reforms.
