The Governing Council of the National Human Rights Commission in Nigeria will be inaugurated on Monday, 2nd August, 2021.
The Governing Council is the highest policy making body of the Commission and its membership represents different interests that cut across relevant government agencies, Private Legal Practitioners, Independent Experts, NGOs and the Media.
According to a statement by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs of the Commission, Fatimah Agwai Mohammed, the coming of the Council Members will further strengthen the programmes and activities of the Commission towards the promotion, protection and enforcement of human rights in Nigeria.
“It is the expectation of citizens and other stakeholders that the coming of the Council Members will further strengthen the programmes and activities of the Commission” the statement read.
It will be noted that members of the Governing Council of the were appointed by the Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari in March 2021.
