Human rights lawyer Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has called on the Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo to protect the integrity of the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025 by ensuring that the newly established ‘Agunechemba’ Security Outfit is not co-opted for political gain as the upcoming governorship election approaches.

Ejiofor, made this appeal in a statement issued to journalists in Awka, the state capital, on Monday. Titled ‘Safeguarding the Integrity of the Anambra Homeland Security Law 2025′, the statement emphasized the need for a solid foundation for the effectiveness of the new security initiative.

He expressed concerns that the security outfit must not be vulnerable to exploitation by political actors or serve as a mechanism for oppression, intimidation, or harassment of political opponents. Ejiofor stressed that the primary objective of safeguarding the security and welfare of Anambra citizens should take precedence over all else.

In his statement, he further urged the people of Anambra to unite in a collective effort to restore the state’s reputation for safety and security. He reiterated that security is a shared responsibility, calling on citizens to collaborate in rejuvenating Anambra’s standing in terms of public safety.

“My careful review of the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025, which establishes the ‘Agunechemba’ security outfit, brings to mind a popular Igbo adage: ‘Osita di mma odibara gboo,’ meaning ‘it is still early in the day to make things right and achieve better results.’ This emphasizes our opportunity to lay a robust foundation for the success of this initiative,” Ejiofor said.

As we approach the November 2025 gubernatorial election, I implore the Governor and his administration to ensure that the Agunechemba security outfit operates free of political interference. It should not fall into the hands of political predators or be misused for oppression or intimidation. Above all, its core mission, ensuring the security and welfare of the people, must remain intact.

“Let us remember that security is a shared responsibility. Every citizen plays a pivotal role in restoring Anambra State’s former glory. Through collective action, we can create a safer, more prosperous homeland for all” he said.
