Stakeholders in the social protection sphere have been challenged to build their capacity in order to effectively manage, propagate and implement the mandate of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, made the call at a 3- day training programme on Social Protection, organised by the Child Development Grant Programme and Save the Children International, in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.
She said capacity building was also key to implementing the policies of the Federal Government.

Represented by the Special Assistant, Administration, Mr Kingsley Ngene, the Minister said the objective was to improve knowledge and provide a deeper understanding of issues regarding social protection to support the strategic position of the Ministry in coordinating social protection programme and implementation in Nigeria.
“The Ministry has initiated the process of keying the staff into the Federal Government programme of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty within the next decade,” she said.
For her part, the National Programme Manager of the Child Development Grant Programme, Ajumobi Kayode, said the aim of the programme was to strengthen the capacity of social protection implementers, to design and implement appropriate social protection programmes for the poor and vulnerable Nigerians.
The 54 Participants were drawn from all the departments in the Ministry and its agencies.
