I will make Kano an Agricultural hub of West Africa – LP Gubernatorial Candidate
Jack Acheme, Kano
The governorship candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in Kano state, Bashir I. Bashir says he will enhance industrialisation and make the state an agricultural hub of West Africa if elected in the 2023 gubernatorial election.
Bashir stated this at the 2023 Elections Dialogue series organised by the Correspondent Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Kano for politicians to showcase their blueprints to the electorates.
He said Kano has no reason to be among backward states in the country, taking into cognizance the abundance of human, natural resources, and economic activities in the state.
“When I become Governor, I will be the economic manager of Kano State. We have 17 improperly utilised dams; if converted to irrigation farming, each dam will feed Kano and the entire West Africa.
“We would redirect government policy on industrialisation. We would build 50 megawatts of the hydro-independent power plant to power Sharada industrial hub and within six months of our administration, we will upgrade the plant to 100 megawatts to power Challawa industrial area,” he said.
He added that his government would give tax haven for industries to thrive, especially small and medium-scale enterprises, including specialised banks, for easy access to credit facilities as obtained in developed economies like China.
“In China, you see specialized banks for everything for easy access to credit facilities. My team will give priority to human development, health, commerce, industry, and agriculture with value addition.
“Not minding what will come as federal allocation to Kano state, after implementing my blue print Lagos will not see our break light,” he said.
Kano is the most popular state and the second-biggest commercial city in Nigeria.
Bashir urged Nigerians to vote for competency and capacity against mediocrity in the 2023 general elections predicting that the Presidential flag bearer of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, will win the election.
“Among the Presidential candidates, Peter Obi of the Labour Party will win in the first ballot, or we go for rerun and win.
“I will do everything to make sure he becomes the next president of Nigeria because of his integrity and knowledge of the economy,” he stressed.
According to him, there was a need for Nigerian society to divorce itself from the old ways of playing Politics of godfatherism, ethnicism, and regionalism and vote for people with honour, not minding which part of the country they come from.
“2023 election should be about character of individuals and issues, not party politics.
“We need Leaders with empathy. America did this, and they are doing well; why not Nigeria?
“If we do the right thing now, in the next 20 years, the country will be one of the largest in the world, on the same pedestal with other developed nations,” he said.
