The chairman Muftau Oyegunle while speaking at the 2021 IICC Media Retreat for insurance journalists in Asese, Ogun State at weekend, pleaded on government at all levels that insurance must be built into most of the support governments are offering.

Oyegunle who is also the President of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria -CIIN, said health insurance subsidy has been done successfully in other countries.

While calling for necessary actions on ailments generally, including Covid-19, he said, only a healthy man can contribute its quota to the growth and development of the country.

Speaking on the attitude of Nigerians toward insurance services, he wondered why someone will build a 21-stores building without adequate insurance coverage, believing a lot of stakeholders, including government, must be held responsible for this negligence.

He said “it may interest you to know that common malaria kills more people in Nigeria than Covid-19. The recent Collapse of 21 storey 360 degrees apartment at Gerald Road, Ikoyi on November 1, 2021 where 45 deaths so far have been recorded with many wounded without any insurance cover exposed the level of decadence in our society. It simply revealed the level of culture of settlement in our country.”

Speaking on the theme of the conference, which is; ‘the Newsman in the Changing World,’ he said, there is a need for knowledge and creativity to lead the way as well as the adoption of artificial intelligence in amplifying the contents that journalists create.
