The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia of the All Progressive Congress (APC), the winner of the just concluded gubernatorial and state House of Assembly elections in Benue state, North central Nigeria.
Fr. Alia polled a total of 473,973 votes to defeat his closest rival, Rt. Hon. Titus Uba who scored a total of 223,915 votes.
The winner of the governorship election was announced after results from the 22 Local Government Areas were collated out of the 23 LGAs of the state.

The Returning Electoral Officer and Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Professor Farouq Kutah made the declaration at the INEC office in Makurdi, Benue state capital on Monday.
While announcing the result Prof. Kutah said “That Hyacinth Iornen Alia of APC having satisfied all the requirements of the law is hereby deckared the winner and is returned elected, this day, 20th of March, 2023″.
Alia, who is a member of the ruling APC, and a Catholic priest is expected to take over from Governor Samuel Ortom.
