PDP’s Sheriff Oborevwori declared winner in Delta Governorship polls

The Governorship Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has been declared winner of the Governorship election which held on Saturday, March 18, in Delta state.

Oborevwori polled a total of 360,234 votes to defeat his closest rival and Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege who scored a total of 240,229 votes in the contest.

The State Collation and Returning Officer, Prof. Abraham Georgewill Owunari, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Portharcout, who announced the results before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Officials, the media, Civil Society Organisation, party agents and other stakeholders, said that governorship election held and was contested in Delta.

Owunari, said that Oborevwori, having satisfied the law by polling the highest number of votes in the governorship election of Saturday, March 18, 2023, “is hereby returned elected.”

Given the analysis, Oborevwori, from the results collated by INEC, Asaba, won in 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) while his APC contender, Ovie Omo-Agege won in four LGAs out of the 25 LGAs in the state.

The third contender in the election, Labour Party(LP), Ken Pela; the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Great Ogboru and the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Kenneth Gbagi failed to win any LGA in the contest.

Accordingly, in Ika North East LGA, PDP scored 26,760 to defeat the APC that polled 4,733, while the Labour Party (LP) scored 1,990 votes.

Also in Aniocha North LGA, PDP polled 8,938; APC- 4,386 and LP-1,883 votes.

In Ndokwa East LGA, PDP scored 10,146 to defeat the APC which scored 9,044 and the LP with 251 votes.

The PDP maintained the lead in Ika South LGA with a total score of 15,283 votes with the APC scoring 6,790 votes and LP 4,495 votes.

PDP also won in Patani LGA with a total of 6,069 votes while the APC polled 4,743 votes the LP got 85 votes.

Also in Sapele LGA, PDP won with 15,217 votes, APC scored 12,090 votes while LP secured 1,458 votes.

Sustaining the lead in Aniocha South LGA, PDP scored 10,032 votes to defeat APC which polled 4,622 votes with LP securing 5,107 votes in the area.

In Okpe LGA,the PDP won with 14,544 votes with APC polling 8,679 votes and LP scoring 1,155 votes.

The PDP won in Bomadi LGA with 12,340 votes while the APC scored 4,728 votes and the LP, 100 votes.

In Ethiope East LGA, PDP won with 13,030 votes while APC polled 11,600 votes with the LP scoring 350 votes.

However, the twist came in Udu LGA and Uvwie LGA where the APC polled 13,154 votes and 12,389 votes respectively to defeat the PDP who polled 9,746 votes and 9,776 votes while the LP scored 1,886 votes and 6,340 votes respectively in the LGAs.

The PDP also won in Oshimili North LGA with 35,966 votes while the APC and LP scored 5,327 votes and 2,983 votes respectively in the area.

In Warri South LGA, PDP polled 15,299 votes with APC scoring 11,569 votes and LP scored 3,743 votes in the LGA.

Maintaining the lead, PDP won in Oshimili South LGA, polling 23,149 votes to beat the APC with 4,763 votes and the LP with 10,148 votes.

Again in Isoko North LGA, PDP scored 15,899 votes with the APC and LP polling 10,811 votes and 894 votes respectively.

However, in Ughelli South LGA, APC polled 15,620 votes to defeat the PDP with 15,513 votes while the LP scored 571 votes.

The PDP continued its lead again in Ethiope West LGA, scoring 7,065 votes while the APC, scored 6,758 votes and the LP, 304 votes.

On Monday, INEC resumed collation of result in UGHELLI NORTH LG where APC polling 34,955 votes to defeat PDP with 15,198 votes while LP polled 1,438 votes.

In Isoko South LGA, PDP took the lead again with 19,963 votes beaten the APC that polled 15,954 votes and the LP with 492 votes.

Again in Ukwani LGA, the PDP scored 14,640 votes to beat the APC which recorded 7,591 votes and the LP that polled 791 votes.

Also in Ndokwa West LGA, PDP polled 15,539 votes to beat the APC which scored 10,252 votes and LP that scored 935 votes in the area.

In Warri North LGA, PDP consolidated victory by polling 10,367 votes as against APC that recorded 4,165 votes and LP with only 205 votes in the area.

Also in Burutu LGA, PDP polled 12,641 votes to beat the APC which polled 11,736 votes and the LP with 123 votes, APGA- 39 votes, and SDP scoring 231votes in the area.

Finally, the result from Warri south West LGA has been declared with PDP scoring 7,114 votes to beat the APC who polled 3,770 votes while LP polled 140 votes in the area.
