Ahead of the Gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections in Benue State, North Central Nigeria, the Independent National Electoral Commission in the State has held a peace meeting with the candidates, Parties, civil society organisations as well as security agencies in the State to achieve a violence-free poll.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Sam Egwu disclosed this to VON at the Commission’s office in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

Professor Egwu noted the preparedness of INEC as well as the intention of the candidates to fight for every inch of the electorate votes. He premised this on the fact that the election is locally based thus the candidates are all known and people are interested in who will be their governor and who represents them in the State House of Assembly

According to the REC, the Commission’s collaboration with the security agencies will enhance a thorough mapping out of security personnel in places where the threat to peace is envisaged.
