The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially presented Certificates of Return to the re-elected Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo and his Deputy, Mr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim.
Presenting the certificates, Ikeagu stated: “Section 72(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 mandates INEC to issue a certificate of return within 14 days to every candidate duly returned by the returning officer. In compliance with this statutory provision, it is my honour to present the certificates of return to the Governor and Deputy Governor-elect who emerged victorious in the election.”
The presentation, which took place at the INEC headquarters in Awka on Tuesday, was conducted by Kenneth Ikeagu, the Supervising National Commissioner for Anambra State.
This followed the duo’s victory in the November 8, 2025 Governorship election, where Soludo, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), secured a resounding win across all 21 local government areas of the state.
Announcing the results, the Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Edoba Omoregie, declared that Soludo polled 422,664 votes, defeating his closest rival, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 99,445 votes.
The Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate, Paul Chukwuma, came third with 37,753 votes.
INEC reported that 16 political parties participated in the poll, with 2,788,864 registered voters, of whom 598,229 were accredited. A total of 595,298 votes were cast, and 11,244 were rejected.
Governor Soludo and Deputy Governor Ibezim were accompanied to the ceremony by their wives, party officials, and supporters.
The issuance of the certificates of return officially confirms their re-election for a second term in office.
