Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has called on Nigerians to see the country’s socio-cultural diversity as a huge source of blessing, amid efforts to achieve the 8-Point Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which seeks to address Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges.
The Minister was speaking in Niger State where he paid courtesy visits to two former heads of state, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, and General Abdulsalami Abubakar.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is always talking about using our diversity for prosperity, and that is the message the elder statesmen also echoed here,” the Minister said in a statement.
“Nigeria is a very diverse country, and we should use that diversity positively for the progress and development of our dear nation.”
With more than 250 dialects and ethnic groups, Nigeria is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world. That diversity, along with an abundance of human and natural resources, has been a focal point in the drive to build a prosperous Nigeria.

Former head of state, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, called on Nigerians to remain hopeful, patient and supportive as the administration of President Tinubu works to unlock the country’s potential for the benefits of all citizens.
“The government faced a very difficult situation and inherited many challenges with the economy, fuel subsidies, and security,” the former head of state and Nigerian statesman said.
“Nigerians, as a people want changes to happen quickly. So, my message to them is they should join hands with the government to overcome these challenges.”
Grand reception
Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation was in Niger State as part of a grand reception organized by the Niger State Government to honour political gladiators from the state at the weekend.
At the reception, the Minister urged state governments to support the Federal Government in the project of reorienting Nigerians, without which, he said, there cannot be meaningful development.
Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umar Bago, congratulated those who secured political positions at both the federal and state levels and urged them to remain good ambassadors of the state.
He highlighted the Nigerian government’s plans to ameliorate the suffering of the citizens and promised that the state governors would play their part in ensuring that the palliatives reach those for whom they were intended.
The grand reception was well attended by dignitaries, including heads of traditional institutions in the state and citizens from Niger State across political parties.
