The Kano State Government has approved projects worth over ₦310 billion aimed at boosting infrastructure, improving public services and enhancing socio-economic development across the state.
The State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the 38th meeting of the State Executive Council held at Government House, Kano.
According to him, “the council approved a total sum of N310,266,203,046” for several projects spanning key sectors of the state’s economy and governance.
He revealed that the largest portion of the approval, over N113.193 billion, was earmarked for the construction of a Mass Housing Scheme to address housing shortages in the state.

The project, tagged “Gida Gida Mega City,” will consist of 480 housing units to be constructed at Rijiyar Gwan-Gwan in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area.
Waiya explained that the housing initiative is designed to tackle the growing housing deficit and promote urban development in the state.
He added that the council also approved N13.2 billion for the execution of constituency projects across the state in 2026, aimed at improving infrastructure and empowering communities.
Education
In the education sector, the commissioner said the council approved N1.54 billion for the settlement of outstanding payments to boarding school food suppliers covering six weeks of the 2025/2026 academic session.
He added that N236.19 million was approved for the payment of eggs and chickens supplied to boarding schools, while N264 million was set aside for the purchase of textbooks to be distributed to students across the 44 Local Government Areas of the state.
“Additionally, the council approved N185.34 million for the construction of a Nomadic School in Tasawa, Dambatta Local Government Area, to support access to education for nomadic communities,” he said.
To support vulnerable residents during the fasting period, Commissioner Waiya announced the council’s approval of N1.34 billion for the 2026 Ramadan Feeding Programme.
He explained that other key sectors such as rural and community development, water resources, health, land and physical planning, and power were also included in the latest council approvals.
Economic Development
On economic development, the council approved the award of contract for the construction of the AKK Industrial Park, a project expected to strengthen industrial growth in the state.
The Commissioner for Housing, Yakubu Ibrahim, explained that the industrial park is strategically located near the terminal of the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano Gas Pipeline Project, which is near completion.
According to him, the project will include the construction of a dualised arterial road, drainage systems, fencing, and gate infrastructure within the industrial park.
On the housing estate, Ibrahim noted that the housing component of the approved projects would feature different types of buildings, including four- and five-bedroom duplexes, semi-detached houses, terraces and detached bungalows, alongside supporting infrastructure such as schools, mosques, and other public facilities.
He said the projects demonstrate the commitment of the administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf to improving infrastructure, enhancing service delivery, and promoting sustainable development in Kano State.
