Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, has called on the Nigerian Army to intensify its partnership with his administration in combating criminality across the state.
The Governor made this appeal during the Major General O.T. Olatoye Special Sallah Luncheon, held in celebration of Eid-al-Adha at the Onitsha Military Cantonment on Saturday.
Expressing heartfelt gratitude to the Armed Forces and local vigilante groups, Governor Soludo commended their unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property in Anambra.
He highlighted key areas such as Ebonesie, Ihiala, and Lilu, which have faced significant security challenges but are witnessing improved safety due to sustained security efforts.
“We recognise and appreciate the Armed Forces and our vigilant community security groups who continue to play vital roles in our collective pursuit of peace and safety,” Governor Soludo remarked.
The Governor also extended his solidarity to President Ahmed Tinubu, the Muslim community, and all Nigerians, emphasizing the symbolic importance of the Sallah celebration as a time for reflection and renewal.
“Let this Sallah period be a moment of general purification for our land,” encouraging those still harboring criminal intentions to surrender and embrace rehabilitation. “No meaningful development can be achieved without security, law, and order.”
In his address, Major General Adewale Adekeye described the special Sallah event as more than just a celebration.
According to him, it was an opportunity to honor the sacrifices of Armed Forces personnel and to recommit to the mission of sustaining peace and upholding the rule of law within communities.
“We remember and celebrate the sacrifices of all, especially those of the pilgrims and our troops,” he said, praising the efforts of Operation Udoka’s troops for their steadfast dedication and notable successes.
“We must be ready to make sacrifices, just as they have, in our ongoing mission to ensure lasting security and national stability,” Major General Adekeye concluded.
The event also featured vibrant cultural displays from various Nigerian ethnic groups, underscoring the rich diversity and unity of the nation.
