The Gombe State Police Command has joined the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day, IWD, with a series of impactful activities aimed at promoting awareness and empowerment for women and the girl child.

The event, which was held at the command headquarters under the theme; “Accelerate Action, women’s  empowerment and societal contribution”, was represented by Mrs Taimako Sunday on behalf of the Chairperson of the Police Officers’ Wives Association, POWA.

A rally was organized to raise awareness about the rights and importance of women and the girl child in society.

Participants, including female police officers, members of POWA, and other stakeholders, marched through designated routes with messages advocating for gender equality and women’s empowerment.

As part of the event, students from the Police Children School, staged a drama performance showcasing the invaluable contributions of women and girls to societal growth.

The performance highlighted the resilience, strength, and dedication of women and the girl child.

Furthermore, a lecture on women’s empowerment in agriculture was delivered to encourage and equip women with knowledge and skills to participate actively in agriculture.

The lecture emphasized the role of women in food security, economic development, and self-sufficiency, urging them to take advantage of available opportunities in agri-business, followed by a lecture delivered on balance diet.

It stressed the command’s commitment to support initiatives that promote the welfare, safety, and empowerment of women and the girl child.

The command also encouraged all stakeholders to continue advocating for a more inclusive society, where women’s contributions are recognized and valued.
