Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei shortlisted for 2021 Laureus Awards
Athletes Joshua Cheptegei of Ugandan and Brigid Kosgei of Kenya were featured on the 2021 Laureus World Sport Awards shortlists, in the Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year categories respectively, following their record-breaking achievements last year.
Since 2000, the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation has honored inspirational individuals and teams each year.
The Laureus awards aim to recognise the most memorable sports achievements and acknowledge the wider impact on society, made by athletes.
Joshua Cheptegei, 24, broke the long-standing 10,000m World record in October 2020 at the Turia Stadium in Valencia, Spain. The record was previously held by legend Kenenisa Bekele.
The Ugandan star marathoner posted 26:11.0 during the NN Valencia World Record Day, slashing six seconds off Bekele’s record.
