The Kaduna State House of Assembly has set up a committee to probe the foreign and domestic loans and grants secured and spent by the immediate past administration of Malam Nasir Ei-Rufai.

The Assembly set up a committee to conduct the probe at Tuesday’s plenary presided by the speaker of the house, Yusuf Liman Dahiru.

The committee was tasked to embark on fact finding of the financial dealings, loans and grant, and other projects implementation from year 2015 to 2023.

The probe panel was mandated to invite El-Rufai and other Notable personalities, which includes the former Speaker of the 8th and 9th Assembly.

Others to be invited are former commissioner of  Finance and ex commissioners of Budget and Planning.

Governor of Kadana state senator Uba Sani had previously lamented the huge debt burden left by the past administration which he claimed was incapacitating his government.

Realities of the state

Speaking shortly after plenary, Yusuf Mugu member representing Kaura constituency, deputy minority leader, said the motion was intended to clarify if the governor was wrong for communicating the realities of the State.

According to him, “Statistics have shown that Kaduna State is owning a lot and second next to Lagos out of the 36 states, if a state reach a point where mere salaries cannot be paid is a serious matter that Calls for concern,  our responsibilities as legislators which includes oversight functions , we appropriate money , we still go back to see how the funds are spent.”

“I moved the motion that the matter be investigated to know the true position of things , to know whether the governor is saying the truth or not because there are all kinds of misgivings including character assassination on his Excellency , we will not stay and watch that is why we need to verify. The loan is so much on the State,”he stated.

It is also reported that the committee has been given one month to report back to the house.
