The Kaduna State House of Assembly has passed the 2026 Local Government Appropriation Bill into law, approving a total budget size of N152.4 billion for the state’s 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
The Speaker of the House, Yusuf Liman, said that the approved funds would significantly enhance socio-economic growth and infrastructural development across local communities.
He expressed optimism that effective implementation of the budget would improve the living standards of citizens at the grassroots.
While presenting the report of the House Committee on Appropriation and Implementation, the Chairman, Shehu Pambegua, (representing Kubau constituency) stated that all the 23 Local Government Chairmen appeared before the committee.
He disclosed that the chairmen defended their 2025 budget performance and presented their 2026 estimates for scrutiny.
Pambegua explained to the media shortly after the sitting, that the committee maintained the budget size as transmitted by the executive, which stands at over N152 billion.
The breakdown allocates over N91.5 billion for recurrent expenditure and over N61.4 billion for capital projects.
The committee chairman however admonished the council chairmen to ensure the judicious implementation of the budget to fulfill the yearnings and aspirations of the people, especially with local government elections approaching.
He further emphasised that the responsibility now lies with the 23 Local government chairmen to execute capital projects that will directly improve the living standards and well-being of citizens at the grassroots.
While highlighting the state government’s rural development focus, he noted that, “the State governor is a rural transformer. That is why he gives more priority to rural dwellers to improve their socioeconomic activities.”
The passage of the bill paves way for the 23 local government councils in Kaduna State to commence their fiscal operations for the 2026 financial year, with strong emphasis on grassroots development and project implementation.
