The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kaduna State has faulted the purported suspension of its party leader, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, describing the action as the handiwork of a few misguided people.

Senator Makarfi had been accused of engaging in anti-party activities.

The State party Chairman, Mr. Felix Hyet who stated this while briefing newsmen on the development at the PDP Secretariat in Kaduna, dismissed the allegations that Senator Makarfi engaged in anti-party activities.

He quoted section 57 of the party constitution as saying that only the National Leadership of the party has the power to suspend a leader of the calibre of Makarfi, emphasising that “the purported suspension has no effect and should be discarded.”

Mr Hyet argued that, during the last general elections, it was Makarfi that led party members and also spent a huge amount of money during the PDP campaigns in all the local government councils in the state.

Therefore, Senator Makarfi cannot be said to be part of any anti-party activities as alleged,” the Chairman said.

According to him, “the party officials at the ward where Makarfi hails from had sat and resolved to take disciplinary action against all those that took part in signing the press statement of the purported suspension.”

Hyet accused the same people who purportedly suspended Senator Makarfi of openly changing the results of the last elections in favour of a different political party in some wards including Makarfi, Kaduna South and Kaduna North Local government areas respectively.

The PDP Chairman also announced that the state executives have endorsed the decision of the Local Government party officials who planned to take disciplinary action against all those who took part in anti-party activities during the last elections at all levels.
