Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane became the club’s highest goalscorer after his lone strike ensured a 1-0 victory against champions Manchester City, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England.
Spurs featured Kane up-front with Djan Kulusevski ans Son Heung-min supporting on the flanks. For City, Erling Haaland started in attack while Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez.
City midfielder Rodri gave up possession on the edge of his own box, allowing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to set up Kane in the 15th minute to become Spurs’ all-time leading scorer with 267 goals.
Kane broke Jimmy Greaves’ record to become Tottenham’s all-time leading scorer. Both sides continued to look for chances after the goal, but to no avail.
The first half finished 1-0 as Manchester City could not find a way to break the defence of Spurs.
In the second half, Tottenham defended brilliantly to keep City out. Spurs defender Cristian Romero saw a red card late in the second half.
However, Tottenham held on to inflict a blow to Manchester City’s title-defence with a 1-0 victory.
The result means Spurs moves to within a point of the top four behind Newcastle who are in 4th place with 40 points from 21 games.
Tottenham faces Leicester next in the Premier League on Saturday, before they return to their Champions League campaign with a last-16 trip to AC Milan on Tuesday February 14th. Manchester City will play Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, February 12th.
