Kano Approves N54.8bn for Major Infrastructure, Education Health Projects

The Kano State Government in North West Nigeria, has approved a total of N54,798,217,384.19 for the execution of multiple capital projects across the state.

The approvals were announced by the Kano State Commissioner for information and internal Affairs Ibrahim Waiya during a press briefing after the 34th council meeting held in Kano.

The projects cut across key sectors including works, education, health, housing, water resources, and security.

Infrastructure

According to the summary released by Waiya, “the Ministry of Works received the largest share of the allocations, covering major road construction and rehabilitation projects in several local government areas.”

These include the construction of a 3-span bridge along Rogo–Gwangwa -Sundu Road at N5.27bn, rehabilitation of Gama Road Network at the coast of N3.28bn, reconstruction of Sarkin Yaki Road in Fagge at N2.6bn and rehabilitation of Independence Road up to the Hadejia Road corridor at cost of the N3.54bn.

Other significant approvals under the Works Ministry includes, N4.98bn for construction of the Rano–Saji road, N3.98bn for rehabilitation of Sokoto Road and Iyaka Road, and N2.24bn for the Gwarzo Road–Western Bypass link road.

The sum of N2.12bn was approved for the installation of 4-way traffic intersections across major roads while N3.19bn goes for structures to support the take-off of Gaya Polytechnic.

Education

In the education sector, the Council approved funds for extensive renovation and upgrades in public schools. These include:

The sum of N242m for additional works at Government Technical College (GTC) Dambatta, N188m for GTC Ungogo, N1.89bn reallocated to SUBEB for school renovations and furniture while N1bn for procurement of school furniture across 13 LGAs.

The sum of N190m has been allocated for completion of furnishings in 34 school libraries and N167m for renovation of Falgore Primary School.

Health

The Health sector also received significant attention, with the Council approving, N344.7m for routine immunization activities for Q4 2025 and N522.9m for renovation, construction and procurement of medical equipment at health facilities in Bichi LGA.

Government House

Infrastructure upgrades at Government House and other state facilities were also approved where, the sum of N1.29bn for Phase II installation of automated intelligence surveillance gadgets and N803.9m for additional works at the Governor’s Wing renovation.

Also, the sum of N318m has been granted for additional fittings and furniture, N440.6m for construction of the Chief Judge’s residence while N192.5m for renovation of the protocol lounge at the Kano International Airport.

Security

To strengthen security operations, the Ministry of Internal Security and Special Services secured an approval of N2.76bn for procurement of security equipment.

Water

In the water sector, the government approved multiple settlements for diesel supply and energy payments to KEEP water operations running, totaling over N900m.

Also approved was N385.6m for the first phase of the state’s migration to an electronic procurement software system.

Additionally, the Council directed the Ministry of Works to submit a revised Bill of Quantities for the continuation of the Gwarzo–Tsaure–Tsanyawa Road Project for consideration at the next meeting.

The government said the approvals reaffirm its commitment to accelerating development, improving public infrastructure, and enhancing service delivery across the state.
