Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has approved a ₦100 million relief package for traders affected by the recent fire outbreak at Singer Market.
The governor announced the intervention during a sympathy visit to the market, where several shops and goods were destroyed by the inferno.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting livelihoods and strengthening commercial infrastructure across the state.

A statement by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature said Governor Yusuf was concern over the scale of losses in the affected part of the market and assured traders of the government’s support.

As part of immediate recovery efforts, the governor directed the expansion and rehabilitation of key road networks within and around Singer Market to improve access, boost commercial activities and reduce future risks associated with congestion and flooding.
Road Contract
He approved the award of ₦3 billion for the expansion and rehabilitation of Bello Road, Ado Bayero Road, Kandoki, Yolawa and Kwangiri roads—arterial routes serving major markets in Kano metropolis.
Governor Yusuf also pledged to solarise Singer Market as part of broader plans to modernise markets across the state in line with his urban renewal and economic growth agenda.

He instructed contractors handling the road projects to mobilise to site and commence work within ten days.
The governor was received by the Chairman of Singer Market, Mr. Junaidu Muhammad Zakari, market elder Alhaji Sabi’u Bako, and the owner of the affected plaza, Alhaji Munzali Mazaf.
Market leaders and elders thanked the governor for the visit and the financial support, describing the intervention as timely and compassionate.
They commended the state government’s sustained efforts to support traders and upgrade infrastructure within Kano’s major commercial hubs, including the Kantin Kwari market axis.
