The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has urged public officials across Nigeria to embrace governance as a platform for service and lasting legacy rather than personal enrichment.

The Governor made the call while declaring open, a three-day capacity-building workshop on Anti-Corruption, Financial Fraud, Transformational Leadership, and Ethical Values for top officials of Kano State, including Commissioners, Special Advisers, Director-Generals, and Permanent Secretaries held in Kaduna state North West Nigeria.

Represented by his Deputy, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, Governor Yusuf stressed that corruption remains one of the greatest threats to national development.

He said; “Corruption is more than an economic crime; it is a betrayal of trust, a distortion of values, and an assault on society.”

He said that, the Yusuf administration is committed to building a people-centred, transparent, and accountable government anchored on integrity and service delivery.

“This workshop is not just another training exercise but a strategic investment in the very foundation of governance. Posterity will not forgive us if we squander the trust placed in our hands. Let integrity be our currency, let service be our culture, and let progress be our destiny,” he declared.

The Governor challenged participants to translate lessons from the workshop into concrete actions, not mere rhetoric, stressing the importance of building resilient institutions that can outlive individual office holders.

The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, represented by the Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa welcomed participants and underscored the national significance of the fight against corruption.

Ibrahim said; “Corruption weakens institutions, disrupts service delivery, deprives the state of progress, and denies citizens justice by eroding public trust in governance.”

He added that capacity-building programmes like this are vital for strengthening governance structures across the country.

The workshop is part of ongoing efforts to entrench accountability and ethical leadership in Kano State, an initiative that echoes broader national calls for public sector reform and good governance.

Details of the engagement was contained in a press statement by Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu.
