The Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been honoured with the Infrastructure Development Commendation Award at the 19th Africa International Housing Show (AIHS) in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
The award was presented in recognition of Governor Yusuf’s achievements in improving infrastructure and expanding access to affordable housing in Kano State.
Representing the governor at the event, the Commissioner for Housing and Development, Ibrahim Yakubu, received the award and conveyed the government’s appreciation to the organisers.
In a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, the award reflects the administration’s strong commitment to sustainable urban growth, quality housing delivery, and the revitalisation of critical infrastructure across the state.
This year’s event, with the theme “Re-Imagining Housing Through Innovation, Collaboration and Policy,” brought together housing experts, investors, and government officials from over 21 countries.
It featured exhibitions of innovative building technologies, housing finance solutions, and policy dialogues aimed at tackling Africa’s housing challenges.
“Kano’s recognition at the AIHS highlights the state’s growing influence in Nigeria’s housing and infrastructure landscape, especially through its efforts in low-cost housing schemes, urban renewal, and forward-thinking development strategies,” the statement read.

The statement further said that Governor Yusuf’s administration will continue to implement people-focused projects that align with global standards and improve the quality of life for all residents of Kano.
