Kano Governor Urges Sharia Commission to Promote Muslim Unity

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has tasked the Kano State Sharia Commission with promoting unity among Muslim sects to strengthen the peace, stability, and socioeconomic growth of the state.

The governor issued the directive while inaugurating the newly appointed Chairmen, Commissioners, and members of the Sharia and Zakkat Commission.

Speaking at the event, Governor Yusuf highlighted Kano’s esteemed status in the Islamic world, noting its wealth of renowned scholars, Islamiyya schools, and Islamic study centres.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, the governor also urged the Zakkat and Hubusi Commission to develop efficient mechanisms for collecting alms (Zakkat) from affluent individuals to support the less privileged, aiming to significantly reduce poverty.

Governor Yusuf emphasised that all appointees were selected based on merit, competence, and trustworthiness, expressing confidence in their ability to discharge their duties with dedication and integrity.

The newly constituted Sharia Commission will be led by Sheikh Abbas Abubakar Daneji as Chairman, with Malam Yahaya Gwani Hadi and Sheikh Ali Dan Abba serving as Permanent Commissioners 1 and 2, alongside ten other members.

Similarly, the Zakkat & Hubusi Commission will be chaired by Barrister Habibu Dan Almajiri, with Sheikh Nafi’u Umar Harazimi and Dr. Ali Quraish as Permanent Commissioners 1 and 2. The commission comprises a total of 12 members.

Governor Yusuf expressed optimism that the newly appointed officials would work diligently to uphold Islamic values, foster harmony, and enhance the welfare of Kano’s citizens.
