Kano Police Laud Media for Promoting Peace Amid Chieftaincy Tussle

The police in Kano State, North West Nigeria, have commended the Nigerian media for promoting peace in the state in the wake of the chieftaincy tussle.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Gumel, made the commendation at a meeting with heads of various media organizations in Kano.

CP Gumel emphasized the critical role that media play in maintaining peace and order, particularly concerning the ongoing issues around chieftaincy matters in the Kano State Emirate Councils.

The CP urged media representatives to exercise utmost caution in their reportage to prevent the dissemination of fake news, misinformation, disinformation, or other news that could potentially destabilize the relative peace being enjoyed in the state.

CP Gumel, while appreciating the media executives for their support and cooperation, also stressed that credible journalism not only upholds the principles of ethical reportage but also contributes to fostering a harmonious and peaceful environment for everyone to live in.

The heads of the media stations in the meeting commended the CP for acknowledging the role of the media in promoting peace.

They pledged their continued cooperation in ensuring accurate, balanced, and responsible reportage as part of their patriotic civic responsibility.
