Kano state deploys ICT to enhance its economy

Governor of Kano State in North Western Nigeria, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje says over two billion naira is being spent in covering 80 kilometres of cable lane to capture commercial areas in the state.

Governor Ganduje was speaking on the internalisation of ICT to boost the Nigerian economy during a discussion session at International Economic and security summit  organised by Stand Tall Initiative in collaboration with Kabiru Gombe Centre for Religious Diversity, Ethnic and Peace Studies.

He noted that Kano state was one of the beneficiary states of the Federal Government’s established ICT parks aimed at boosting digital security acquisition among youths to promote innovations, provide jobs for the youth and support overall transformation in the country.

According to him, “We are deploying the ICT to drive our economy in the field of governance, revenue generation information  determination and improved security of lives of our people. Kano state government is also making huge investment in the proposed fiber optic network project that is aimed at unifying fiber infrastructure by the employment of a single cable birth for all telecommunication companies operating in the state, improving Internet access, government institutions, enhancing e-governance and exploring other revenue services.” Mr Ganduje added.

The Governor stated that the state established a revenue collection platform to serve as the main host for tax transactions known as Kano State Internally Generated Revenue Platform to reduce revenue leakages in the collection of revenue.

The former minister Communication and Digital Technology, Mr Adebayo Shittu while speaking on the importance of digital technology on the Nigerian economy stated that in the 2nd quarter of 2021, ICT sector contributed about 17.92 percent to the Nigerian GDP

He noted that the ICT has impacted so much on the development in the country especially the economy.
