The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of renowned BBC broadcaster, Hajiya Bilkisu Babangida, who died in Abuja on Tuesday at the age of 56 after a prolonged illness.
The governor’s condolence message was conveyed in a statement released by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature.
Governor Yusuf described the late Bilkisu Babangida as a pioneering figure in the field of broadcasting, whose impactful career left a lasting legacy.
He noted that her work with international media organizations such as the Voice of America (VOA) and the BBC served as a beacon of inspiration to many within and outside Nigeria.
“She was more than just a broadcaster—she was a unifying voice, a storyteller, and a symbol of excellence in journalism. Her passion, dedication, and professionalism will be remembered for generations,” the governor stated.
On behalf of the government and people of Kano State, Governor Yusuf prayed for Almighty Allah to grant Hajiya Bilkisu Babangida eternal rest and admit her into Aljannah Firdaus.
He also extended heartfelt condolences to her family and the wider journalism community, praying for strength and comfort in this period of grief.
