Kano State Inland Dry Port begins operation end of 2021

The Multi-million dollar Kano Inland Dry Port project conceptualized for easy transshipment of sea cargo to the second biggest commercial city in Nigeria will commence operation by the end of this year.

The first phase of the project billed to commence operation is located in Zawachiki, Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state

The Managing Director of the Dala Inland Dry Port, Ahmad Rabiu disclose this during a media tour of the Project site in Kano state northwestern Nigeria.

He said the project will reduce cost, risk and ease the transportation of imported goods through the sea to the ancient city of Kano as well as products meant for export including enhancement of Internally Generated Revenue to the state

“We are going to compete favorably with Lagos in terms of revenue generation, reduce an average of 50 Containers lost on transit from Lagos to Kano, about N1 million cut on payments of shipment which would be done at only N200, 000, Containers will also begin to arrive kano within 24 hours because of the development in the rail sector “said Rabiu.

He said the employment generating special economic zone Kano inland dry port will have facilities that would take at a go 20,000 small containers and 10,000 large containers as it will also revive the Trans Sahara commercial activities.

The Managing Director said Kano State Government as a matter of commitment has spent over N2.3 billion on improving facilities at project site to ensure that it commences operation.

“Governor Ganduje’s commitment to the actualization of the project has been clearly demonstrated with the construction of the Billion Naira link road, fencing of the entire 104 meters land, provision of water and energy for the project,” he stressed.

He added that the Kano Inland Dry Port project was approved by the federal government for over ten years and work was at slow pace, until the present administration in Kano state approved the disbursement of fund for the construction to be accelerated.
