Katsina State Governor seeks collaborative effort to tackle insecurity
By Timothy Choji, Abuja
The Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari says all Nigerians must work together to address the current security challenges confronting the nation.
Masari made the remark in Abuja on Thursday, in an interview with State House Correspondents, after meeting with the Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari.
He said: “The reality is, the responsibility of securing this country is ours; all of us. We have a role to play and we must play it for the sake of the country and for the sake of our children and grandchildren, not for the sake of the persons that are in office.
“We have to understand that whatever we do to restore security in our country today, we are not doing it for one particular person or group of persons but we are doing it for all of us and for the country.”

Stable Nigeria
The Governor stressed that all hands must be on deck to ensure stability in Nigeria, because that will also bring about stability on the African continent.
“A stable Nigeria means a stable sub-Saharan Africa,” he said.
On the recent call by the National Assembly for the declaration of state of emergency on security, he said;
“I think we better be serious about this issue of security because, if you say we declare a state of emergency then what do you do next? You will continue to have the same people; the same security agencies, capacity and resources.
“We have a problem whereby, every person has a role to play, we better play it. Politics should be over. The security situation in the country is beyond partisan politics and it’s a national concern for all of us. State of emergency cannot solve the problem.
More resources
Governor Masari solicited more resources for the State and Local Governments so as to address unemployment, so as to deter the youth from indulging in vices and restiveness.
On the security situation in his State, he said the state government is working hard to sustain the peace currently being enjoyed.
“We thank God for how things are now in Katsina but actually the situation is still of high concern, insecurity is real but we are doing everything to make sure that we control the situation so that it doesn’t reach the level it was before and we are hopeful that working together with security agencies, responsible persons and also the repentant bandits, we will be able to have our state go back to normalcy,” he said.
