Kenya reports 335 new Covid-19 cases

Kenya’s Ministry of Health on Thursday reported 335 new confirmed coronavirus cases raising the nationwide total to 97,733.

The capital Nairobi recorded the highest number of cases with 102 while 24 counties across the country reported at least one confirmed case.

 “Currently, there are 536 patients admitted in various health facilities countrywide and 2,498 on Home Based Isolation and Care.  29 patients are in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 18 of whom are on ventilatory support and 9 on supplemental oxygen. 2 are on observation,” the ministry said.

“10 other patients are separately on supplementary oxygen and are in the general wards. No patient is in the High Dependency Unit.”

The death toll from the pandemic in the East African country also rose to 1,702 after eight more people died while the number of recoveries rose to 80,306.

“340 patients have recovered from the disease, 261 being from the Home-Based Care Program, while 79 have been discharged from various hospitals.”

The Kenyan government recently announced a raft of measures to help contain the spread of Covid-19 in the country, which is the second-worst affected in the East and Horn of Africa region.

The nationwide curfew was extended up to March 12 as was the suspension of all forms of public events and gatherings for a further 60 days.

All passengers in public and private vehicles were ordered to wear masks and always maintain hand hygiene, while within the motor vehicle, and all public service vehicles are to observe a strict 60% maximum carrying capacity limit.
