Kenyan Foundation Urges Nigerian Politicians to Accept Tribunal Outcome

The Chairman, of PLO Lumumba Foundation, Kenya, Prof. Patrick Lumumba has charged political leaders in Nigeria to accept the tribunal outcome as Nigeria must remain stable for peace and unity to strive.

 

Prof. Lumumba stated this during the 2023 Annual Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Lecture in Lafia the North Central Nasarawa state capital.

 

He call on Nigerian leaders to imbibe the virtues of the former Premier of the Northern Region late Sir Ahmadu Bello whose major preoccupation was inclusive leadership and selflessness.

 

Prof. further said that elections are the cornerstone of any democracy, and they provide a platform for citizens to choose their leaders and hold them accountable.

 

Lumumba explains that elections are important in every nation if it is done free, fair, and transparent which are essential for building trust in government and promoting stability, growth, and development.

 

“Nigeria’s political stability and leadership have significant implications for Africa’s progress. Nigeria has experienced periods of political instability and military rule in its history, but it has also made significant strides toward democracy and good governance. Nigeria’s democratic system, though not without flaws, has seen a peaceful transition of power, and its political institutions are evolving”.

 

“As a leader in Africa, Nigeria’s political stability, and effective leadership are vital for promoting democratic governance, upholding the rule of law, and fostering inclusive development of the continent”, Prof Lumumba noted.

 

In a keynote address, President Muhammadu Buhari stated that Nigeria would be much stronger if leaders focus attention on good governance, accountability and justice for the people.

 

The President represented by his Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari called on the political class to continue to take a cue from the virtues of the former Premier of the Northern Region late Sir Ahmadu Bello whose major preoccupation was inclusive leadership and selfless service to the people irrespective of their diversify.

 

He urged the incoming administration not to relent in exploring ways of improving the nation’s electoral system for democracy and the rule of law to strive.

 

Also speaking, Gov. of Plateau State and Chairman, of the Northern Governor’s Forum,  Simon Lalong, said the annual memorial lecture was aimed at immortalizing their leader and reminding themselves of the need to emulate his developmental strides.

 

He added that despite the lack of enough resources at that time, the Late Ahmadu Bello was able to build many institutions in the region and called on the present to emulate him to put it at par with other parts of the country.

 

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State and the former Governor of Niger State Dr Muazu Babangida who is also the Chairman Board of Trustees Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation called on leaders especially in the northern part of the country to step up efforts in initiating programmes aimed at economic development of the region.

 

The theme of the lecture is ‘Credible 2023 General Elections as Panacea to Search for Quality Leadership in Nigeria.
