kogi Government set to fight malnutrition, signs memorandum of understanding

Kogi state government is committed to put an end to the menace of malnutrition which has stopped children from thriving in the state and country at large.

The state commissioner for health, Dr Saka Haruna made this known while speaking during the signing of memorandum of understanding with the Africa Youth Growth Foundation (AYGF), at the conference hall of the ministry of health in lokoja, the state’s capital.

He reiterated that the Governor, Alhaji Bello has shown great dedication to the course by setting aside 12.6million U.S. dollars for implementing nutritional programs around the state ensuring an absolute coverage of mothers and children, in a bid to reduce maternal and child mortality rate in Nigeria.

Dr Saka emphasized the need to take care of pregnant women as no woman should die in the process of giving life. He noted that the government is prioritizing the maximum health of women and children while thanking the AYGF for their collaboration and nutritional services.

The Executive Director of AYGF, Dr. Arome Salifu on his part thanked the state government for its kind gesture promising to ensure all projects on nutrition are implemented using several strategies like involving the traditional rulers, religious bodies and using local language as well as viable means of transportation to reach remote areas.

The project coordinator of Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ANRIN), Bola Ogundusi lauded the World Bank for partnering with Kogi State in resolving nutritional issues adding that by 2023 with the dedication AYGF, excellent nutritional services must have reached most women and children in the state.
