Eid Al-Adha: North-Central Governors Task Citizens on Security, Unity

Kogi State Governor in Northcentral Nigeria, Yahaya Bello has charged the people of the state to be law-abiding and security conscious at all times to keep the state safe.

The governor gave the charge shortly after he observed the Eid Al-Adha prayer at Okene prayer ground,  the country home of Governor Yahaya Bello.

He charged the people of the state to respect constituted authority and promised to fulfill his promises of developing the state far better than he met it when he took over the leadership of the state in 2016.

“I thank God almighty who has brought us thus far. This is my last time praying on this ground as a governor I thank God for his protection,  guidance, and the good health we have enjoyed throughout my tenure to date.

Governor Bello called on the citizens of the state to be patient with the current government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, assuring that with perseverance there are better days ahead under the current administration.

He noted that in the last seven years, his government had committed a lot in ensuring that the state remain peaceful and urged the citizens of the state to cooperate and support him to complete his tenure that would end in January next year.

The governor appealed to the chief imam of Ebiraland, Sheik Salihu Abere, to use his position as a religious leader to unite the people irrespective of belief, urging him not to allow anybody to derail him from performing his functions as chief imam.

The traditional leader of Ebiraland, Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, His Royal Highness Ado Ibrahim, commended Governor Yahaya Bello for developmental efforts scattered across the state.

The Chief Imam, Sheik Salihu Abere in a sermon, reminded Muslims to go closer to God through intensive prayer to enable them to enjoy God’s favour.

Eid-Al-Adha is the second of the two official holidays in Islam. It falls on the 10th day of Dhul-Hijjah, which is the 12th (final) month of the Islamic lunar calendar, and marks the completion of Hajj (one of the five pillars of Islam). The Eid-Al-Adha meaning translates into the ‘Feast of the Sacrifice’ as massive sacrifices of animals occur on the day around the world.

The observance of the event depends on the sighting of the new moon after the conclusion of the noble Islamic pilgrimage, Since the festival depends on the lunar calendar, as it falls on different dates every year.

According to Islamic Scholar in Lokoja, Sheikh Imam Salih, it can fall on different dates in various parts of the world in the same year.

The sacrifice continues for 3 days, and the celebrations can last for 3 or more days depending upon the traditions of various countries.

Eid-Al-Adha in Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, and other countries starts on Wednesday, 28th June 2023.

Kwara State

Kwara state Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has urged the people of the state to be their brother’s keepers and work for the unity and development of the country.

In Ilorin, the state capital, the Governor joined several other dignitaries at the central praying ground for the prayers where Imam Imale, Sheikh Abdullahi AbdulHameed led the proceedings.

“We must first glorify Almighty Allah for allowing us to witness another Eid. For those that went to Hajj, we pray to Allah to bring them back safely. Our strength lies in our unity, and we should maximize such unity and peace that we enjoy to bring more development to our state,” the Governor told reporters on the sideline of the Eid, hailed by hundreds of admirers and worshippers alike.

“Our main message is for peace and tranquility. Let’s be our brothers’ keepers. We all have hope in this country to attain greater heights.”

Clad in his full Royal regalia and flanked on both sides by his top chiefs and courtiers, the Emir Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari was excited at the unusually large crowd, the colour, and the peaceful atmosphere that attended the entire proceedings.

Commending Governor AbdulRazaq for the peaceful atmosphere created in the state, the Emir prayed to Allah to bless the city and its people, and to continue to help the government to achieve a lot more for the people.

The Emir rejoiced with the Muslim community on another Eid-Al-Adha and for sustainable peace in the state.

Alhaji Sulu-Gambari praised AbdulRazaq for working hard to strengthen the peace and development of the state.

“This massive turnout is impressive. We are happy with the existing peace in the state. We thank Governor AbdulRazaq who is the Chief security officer of the state and all the security agencies,” the Emir said.

Alhaji Sulu-Gambari prayed for prosperity for the sons and daughters of the state, especially the Ilorin Emirate.
