Kun Khalifat FC Withdraws From NPFL Over 'Unfair Sanctions'.

Kun Khalifat FC has sent shockwaves through the Nigerian football community by announcing its immediate withdrawal from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), over “unfair sanctions” imposed by the league board.

The crisis stems from a Match Day 24 fixture against El-Kanemi Warriors scheduled for Monday, February 2nd, 2026, in Maiduguri. Kun Khalifat failed to honour the game, leading the NPFL board to impose heavy penalties:

Forfeiture of three points and three goals to El-Kanemi Warriors.

A ₦10 million fine, which is suspended for the rest of the season if no similar offence occurs.

The league labeled the club’s reasons for missing the match as “unacceptable”.

In a strongly worded statement, Kun Khalifat CEO Michael Amaefula described the sanctions as “outrageous and disproportionate,”  and a “travesty of justice.”

Amaefula insisted that valid reasons were provided for missing the match but were rejected by the league.

While the Kun Khalifat FC has officially stated its withdrawal from the NPFL, the club have hinted at exploring other platforms to continue developing their talents.

The NPFL board has yet to issue an official response regarding the withdrawal, leaving the status of future fixtures and the league table in a state of uncertainty.

Kun Khalifat FC gained promotion to the NPFL from the Nigeria National League (NNL), last season.
