The Kwara State House of Assembly, North Central Nigeria, has passed the Charcoal Production (Prohibition) (Amendment) Bill, 2025 following its third reading on the floor of the House.
The passage followed the consideration and adoption of the report of the House Committee on Environment at the Committee of the Whole, during which all clauses of the Bill were thoroughly examined and approved.
Governor’s Assent
Speaking after the final passage, the Speaker of the House, Yakub Danladi directed the Clerk of the House to produce clean copies of the Bill for onward transmission to the Governor for assent.

The amendment strengthens the existing Charcoal Production (Prohibition) Law by increasing penalties for offences related to the cutting of trees, production, transportation, storage, and sale of charcoal, as part of efforts to curb deforestation and protect the environment in the state.
The Speaker commended members of the House Committee on Environment, chaired by Olakunle Rasaq, the lawmaker representing Isin Constituency, for what he described as “a thorough and diligent legislative work.”
He noted that the amended law would further enhance environmental sustainability in Kwara State.
