The Kwara State House of Assembly will on Thursday, screen nominees for appointment as Commissioners into the state executive council.

This followed the receipt of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s message, which he transmitted to the House on Wednesday.

The Speaker, Yakubu Danladi Salihu, read the Governor’s message during the Wednesday plenary and directed the nominees to appear at the hallowed chambers for screening tomorrow (Thursday).

He, however, directed the appointees to make available their Curriculum Vitae for authentication.

The nominees included Aliyu Kora Sabi (Baruten), Raji Rasaq (Ekiti), Rotimi Iliasu (Moro), Aliyu Muhammed Saiffudeen (Kaiama), Fatimah Arinola Lawal (Ilorin East), Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu (Ilorin South),  and Wahab Femi Agbaje (Offa).

In his message, AbdulRazaq said his decision to appoint the nominees was in accordance with Section 192 subsection (1 to 5) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

“In selecting persons to hold the office of Commissioners, I have taken due care to comply with the provision of Section 14 subsection one of the 1999 Constitution,” the Governor said.

The seven nominees served in the last cabinet that was dissolved in late December last year.

Governor AbdulRazaq, in his message to the House, said “In line with Section 192 subsection (1 to 5) of the 1999 Constitution, I AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Executive Governor of Kwara State submit hereunder names of nominees I intend to appoint as Commissioners to the government of Kwara State for confirmation by the Kwara State House of Assembly.”

Meanwhile, Governor AbdulRazaq also transmitted to the House State Sports Commission Amendment Bill 2021.

The bill, which was earlier passed in the House, sought establishment of Governing Board for the commission among other provisions.

The Governor urged the state legislature to give the bill the desired attention.
