The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) in Kwara State has cancelled election results from Tsaragi polling Unit 10 of Edu local government area of the state.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Kwara, Attahiru Madami, told newsmen on Sunday that the cancellation was due to the snatching of ballot boxes by hoodlums during last Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.
The REC explained that the cancellation was in line with the rules guiding the conduct of the general election adding that out of 2,887 polling units in Kwara State, only one polling unit had its ballot box snatched.
He refuted the claim that the commission used vehicles belonging to one of the political parties involved in the election to distribute electoral materials.
Answering questions from Journalists, Madami attributed the late arrival of INEC personnel, and materials on Saturday to some parts of the Ilorin West local government area and subsequent the commencement of voting hitches at the Registration Area Centre (RAC) to logistics which led to the extension of voting to 6 pm in the evening.
“It took us up to 11 a.m. before we finished the distribution of logistics and immediately I knew we are starting late. I extended the time of voting until the last person in queue voted,” he added.
