The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Mai-Martaba Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has expressed profound grief over the demise of the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, who passed away on Tuesday.

The monarch’s condolence message was contained in a statement issued by his press secretary, Abdulazeez Arowona.

Sulu-Gambari described the late Justice Muhammad as an incorruptible jurist who served the nation diligently before his voluntary resignation as the 18th Chief Justice of Nigeria and retirement from judicial service.

He recalled their professional relationship, saying, “Late Justice Tanko worked with me at the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, before my enthronement as the 11th Emir of Ilorin in 1995, and I have since held him in very high esteem due to his commitment to work and love for our dear nation.”

The Emir added, “His Lordship, Hon. Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad GCON, was a dedicated jurist who tried his best by being upright at work and a mentor to many young lawyers and judges. I honour his tireless dedication to the rule of law and the improvement of the Nigerian judiciary, values for which he will always be remembered. His professional achievements and unwavering commitment to justice have had a lasting impact on Nigeria’s legal system.”

He expressed heartfelt condolences to the immediate and extended family of the deceased, the government and people of Bauchi State, the Nigerian Judicial Council, and the federal government.

Sulu-Gambari prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive Justice Muhammad’s shortcomings, accept his good deeds, and admit him to Al-Janatul Firdaus.
