The First Lady of Kwara State, Ambassador Olufolake Abdulrazaq, has met with the Coalition of Kwara State All Progressives Congress, APC, Female Candidates, and Aspirants at the Kwara State Government House, Ilorin.

The female coalition group, which was formed in the build-up to the party primaries in the State, aims at uniting and galvanising support for the female aspirants contesting under the auspices of the Kwara State APC.

In her opening remarks at the meeting, a House of Assembly candidate from Moro Local Government, Abdulraheem Madinat, thanked the state Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, and the First Lady for backing female aspirations in the State and solicited more support.

The youngest APC Candidate in Kwara representing Owode/Onire State Constituency, Miss Rukayat Shittu, appreciated the First Lady and the Governor on behalf of the candidates who came out victorious in the primary elections in the State and also sought the support of the Governor and First Lady in their continued pursuits.

An aspirant from Offa, Hon Zainab, while commending Ambassador Olufolake for the support she gave them during the primary elections in the State, also emphasised the need to help foster unity amongst party members to work as one regardless of the outcome of the primaries.

In her remarks, the APC women leader Alhaja Falilat Mohammed expressed her gratitude to the First Lady for the support and opportunity given to some women who have now emerged as candidates in their various constituencies.

She also urged the aspirants present at the meeting not to get discouraged by the outcome of the primaries as there would be better opportunities to take up in the near future.

The First Lady, Ambassador Olufolake Abdulrazaq, congratulated the candidates and commended the aspirants for putting up a good fight at the primaries even though some couldn’t scale through. Still, the number of female candidates under the platform of APC is a clear departure from the Kwara State of the past.

Ambassador Abdulrazaq, while urging them not to relent in pursuing election victory, said that as women who had been recognised and empowered by a gender-sensitive Governor, they should ensure that they do not leave behind the former aspirants and members of the forum.

According to her, the primaries are now over and therefore urged them to see themselves as one regardless of the outcome of the primaries that have produced some of them as candidates.

She appealed to them to hold on to each other and support all other candidates from their localities, stressing that they should all be proud of themselves for the courage they had shown during the primaries but that it was time to rally around those produced by the keenly contested exercise.

During the meeting, the Commissioner for Communications, Bode Towoju, reiterated Governor Abdulrahman’s commitment to recognising women’s importance, which ensured that women occupy strategic positions in his government.

Other dignitaries present at the meeting were Commissioners for Youth Development, Mrs. Jemila Baki, and that of Special Duties, Olaitan Buraimo.
