The Kwara State Governor,  AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has commiserated with the people of Igosun and the family of a former Deputy Governor of the state, Simon Sayomi who died on Wednesday at the age of 95.

In a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, said he received the news of the death of Sayomi with sadness but with total submission to the dictate of the Almighty God who gives and takes life.

”Governor AbdulRazaq said he was a perfect gentleman, a bridge builder, a community leader, and a respectable statesman who served the state well.

”He was indeed an inspiration, given his role in one of the earliest efforts to free our people from the shackles of political demagoguery.

“Baba Sayomi was until his death a major supporter of the Otoge administration. On behalf of his family, the people and government of Kwara State, the Governor commiserated with the people of Igosun on the death of the Asiwaju of Igosunland and the family and political associates of His Excellency. He prayed the Almighty to repose the soul of the deceased and comfort his family,” the statement added.

Also the Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Salihu Yakubu-Danladi commiserated with the people of Igosun and the family of former Deputy Governor of the State.

“It is with a heavy heart that we receive news of the demise of our father and elderly statesman, His Excellency, Deacon Simon Sayomi, a former Deputy Governor of Kwara State and a one of the guidance and strong pillar of support to the OTOGE revolution that renewed the hope of a greater Kwara.

“As much as we will love to have him around for his wise counsel on the progress of the State, we take in the fact that he lived a worthy and fulfilling life, and left legacies that would outlive him,” Yakubu-Danladi said.

He said; ”On behalf of the 9th Kwara State House of Assembly, I commiserate with Kwarans, particularly the good people of Igosun and the immediate family of the deceased over the great loss, while praying God to forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest.”

The late Sayomi served as the Deputy Governor of Kwara State between 1999 and 2003, under the administration of late Governor Mohammed Alabi Lawal and remained, until his death, a major supporter of the All Progressives Congress.
