Kwara State SWAN Commends Awoniyi On Dressing Room Construction
The Kwara State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), commended Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi for constructing Dressing Rooms for Sheikh Abdulkadir College in Ilorin, Kwara State, North Central Nigeria.
The Sheikh Abdulkadir College was the school where Nottingham Forest striker Awoniyi was discovered while playing for his boyhood club, Unicorn Football Academy (UFA).
The Chairman of Kwara SWAN, Ismail Ayodeji, who led other executives to the newly constructed dressing room on Saturday, said the kind gesture of the former Flying Eagles striker would inspire other established players to give back to their society.
Ayodeji hoped that the completion of the second phase (laying of synthetic pitch) would help to unearth more talents for the country.
“Indeed it is a fantastic and laudable initiative by the Nottingham Forest striker to build a dressing room for the pitch where he was discovered,” Ayodeji said.
“This project epitomises the concept of ‘the business of football’ and how crucial infrastructure is in football development. This is truly evidence of the importance of the private sector in grassroots football development.”
“SWAN believes the facility will inspire the young players of the academy to pursue football as a career and not recreation,” Ayodeji added.
Ayodeji charged other well-meaning individuals from the State, especially players scattered across the globe, to ensure they contribute their quota to the development of sports in the state.
